Choices Choices
Every moment, each thought, every reaction is an opportunity to CHOOSE.
Some choices you have are:
· How much life you give to your reaction.
· The stories you make up in your mind about something you heard.
· The judgments that you make. Each judgment has a cost to you for making it.
· Whether to choose fear or faith.
· Whether to eat or not eat something.
· Whether to be mad or compassionate about how someone treated you.
Yes, these are ALL CHOICES. Embedded within every thought is an opportunity to go down one road or another. It is a built-in part of the system of our human thinking. Our observations, which are influenced by our domestication and human conditioning, have within them opportunities to choose. All too often we believe that we have no choice. We think that there is only one road, but this is a lie. Your choice is the innate power within to live your life by design and not by default – your choices are infinite and constant.
My husband made a comment to me about our business, it prompted an internal reaction in me and I could see there – right before my eyes that I had the choice to either make what he said something against me or something for me. These kinds of choices happen every day. It is possible you just haven’t considered that you had a choice. You do!
You know the old story about choosing to pick up a burning ember to throw it at someone. The realization there and the choice is this: Do I want to get back at someone enough to also get burned? When you are involved in complicated relationships, you do not have to give your power away by being on automatic. You can choose to not pick up that ember, which frees you from future resentment.
All too often, we think that one choice is better than another when in truth it is just a choice. If in doubt about how to choose, or what to choose, choose according to your life values. Let your values be your guide.
How do you get there? Practice, practice, practice. Mindfulness, awareness, meditation, and lots of introspection that includes paying attention to your body’s reactions. You can design your own path by paying attention.
