You Never Know. . .

While traveling North America and engaging scores of individuals from all walks of life, I am consistently learning that we all are dealing with all sorts of things. As the saying goes: BE KIND, EVERYONE YOU MEET IS FIGHTING A BATTLE YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.  As individuals and as the collective, we are all walking around trying to function on top of all sorts of discord. Sometimes it is obvious and other times it is not. But I can tell you with absolute certainty, most of us have no clue that we have many layers of pain and chapters of stories rolling around in our head that keeps getting in the way.

The issue with trying to function on top of dysfunction is as follows. Unseen, unacknowledged, and unhealed pain and trauma becomes a cause in our lives. We tend to cover up even when we don’t know why. We avoid people while thinking it is our intuition (although that can also be true). We believe we are functioning normally, but after years of working with hundreds of students it has been proven time and time again that once healed there is a vast amount of wealth in the form of love, joy and freedom that’s masked from these unexpressed shadows.

Of course I could go on about what’s hidden, but what I am most excited about these days are the rewards, the stunning, unquestionable rewards.

This past weekend I was asked by an attendee of the retreat, “Why do you do this work?” My answer was clear, I do this work to help anyone who wants to identify themselves as a spiritual traveler seeking personal freedom in order to better our planet. The question I keep asking myself lately and the one I am asking you now is – WHO HAVE YOU COME HERE TO BE? What impact have you come here to have? No pressure at all. I’m not suggesting that you need to have a vision to change the world. Your impact is as valuable even if it is only to generate peace in your own family.

But who we have come here to be will always be informed by whatever battle you have been fighting. For me, I will keep the good fight going, the inner fight, the one that leaves me standing on higher emotional ground, clear, and ready to remember who I have come here to be.

May you remember who you were born to be and embrace it with all your gusto.
