Let’s Stop Suffering

Greetings beloved,

I speak to you today from my soapbox, or shall I say from my high horse, from my who the hell do I think I am position.

I have seen individuals in struggle, and I have seen individuals who have reached the mountaintop and have embraced their beauty and their strengths, and their magnificence. I have supported individuals to bridge the gap between their struggle and their success, to help them identify the path, and have walked the path with them. There is always a level of satisfaction that I get from partnering with someone who knows that something greater is possible.

Now, from that high horse, I do believe that health, prosperity, great relationships, and joy are always within our reach or at least within the scope of what we know and can generate. Unfortunately, most individuals reach out for support once they're in pain, ill, can't rub two nickels together, or are in a divorce. I say, unfortunately, because none of these limitations are necessary outcomes in our life, they are born of our unawareness. They are simply the result of spending too much time being unconscious and trying to survive the details of life, navigating between functioning and trying to function.

I am not alone in what I am about to say. I can guarantee you that every spiritual teacher, coach, minister, and metaphysical guide feels a certain amount of sadness when someone comes to us with such pain points. Because what we know is much of this could have been preempted. The preempted actions are simple but not valued enough in this world. A short list of these preempted actions are meditation, prayer, community support, therapy when necessary, a solid forgiveness practice, raising our awareness through education such as classes and trainings, and a commitment to raising our self-love quotient. When we practice enough, and we practice these things early enough in our lives, we can preempt some of the pain and suffering that we might now be subscribing to.

So, this is what I know. If you have been slightly unconscious and gotten yourself into a situation that you are now trying to climb out of, please first believe that you can. It makes me think of when I see a picture of myself from 10 years ago, and I find myself wishing I looked now as I did 10 years ago. Well, 10 years ago, I wished I looked like the way I looked 20 years ago. Talk about an unworkable situation. The only time we can start our transformation is NOW. And I want to reiterate something I say all the time: We are not at the mercy of our conditions. We begin by acknowledging what is and moving forward, maybe more mindfully, taking more actions, with more faith, and more conviction. But we can move forward, and we can unravel ourselves from some of the suffering that we are experiencing.
