The Pain and the Triumph of Feeling
I am so incredibly grateful that in this year, 2023, the conversation around feelings is a common one. While feelings are common, they have buried within them an element of pain and suffering that is part of the necessary steppingstone toward freedom. To be free, we must climb above our challenges. Each challenge can be seen as a BLOCK or a STEPPINGSTONE.
As a block it means that you have assessed life as to hard to manage, too hard to free yourself from the very normal human condition, in other words, blocking yourself off from possibility. As a steppingstone it is an indicator that you are willing to knuckle down, embrace what’s in front of you, and feel what needs to be felt with the sweet anticipation of success and freedom.
We cannot embrace the fullness of our being; unless we are willing to pass through the gates of emotions, feelings, both the good aspects and the challenging aspects. To be willing to feel is your claim that you are willing to be wildly wonderfully alive. To be willing to feel is to be a champion of the human form as you darn the human space suit that you walk around in. We are thinking/feeling beings. And it is beautiful.
What makes the difference? YOUR ATTENTION! Your attention cultivates the life that you are paying attention to. Your attention becomes your intention, in a silent but powerful way. This is why we must learn to pay attention to what we pay attention to.
If you label your emotions as bad and work to avoid them through various methods that becomes an intention for your world to close in and become smaller. If you label your emotions, even the tough ones, as normal, part of your human experience, and consider them to be fodder for your growth, then they become your steppingstones.
Let’s be honest, sometimes life feels like we just ran into a brick wall – OUCH. No doubt. My own life and my relationships challenge me all the time. There are brief moments when I just want to throw my hands in the air and say: “Screw it, I’m out.” But those moments are rare because, in truth, I am perfectly aware that every feeling I feel – EVERY feeling is FOR ME.
This switch of attitude and attention can be downright magical, miraculous. Try switching your attention from this hurts to this is a blessing, from I can’t do this to I have the courage to stand in my emotions, from life is against me and the world sucks to there is a light, a love, and a power that surrounds me, and remember – and when you think someone is against you personally, remember you alone have the power to transform the texture of wrong to right, of pain to blessing. You are a powerful creator of your life.
