Take off your glasses so you can see!

Yes, remove your glasses so you can see clearly. Don’t wear glasses, you say? Then close your eyes. We adore our eyesight as an exquisite sense of ours, face it, because of it, we get to live with the awe of beauty, such as the first time we gaze at our newborn child or catch brilliantly colored birds feeding at a nearby bird feeder. Colors, sunrises, sunsets, and vistas from a hilltop are all enough to take our breath away; this is the gift of our eyesight.

HOWEVER, there is another side to our eyesight that we want to pay attention to when our sight distracts us from the truth of our wholeness, or the wholeness of one we care about. When seeking to be faithful and to use our faith and conviction to heal something emotional or physical, it takes a lot of effort not to be distracted by what we see. Seeing someone in pain and praying for their wholeness takes a particular skill and effort.

To be a partner in someone’s healing we must be able to look beyond, look above, the evidence of pain and struggle. For as long as we are focused on the issue, we are giving our energy to it and are keeping it alive. This can be more difficult when we are in pain, but it works the same way. To rise above life’s upsets, annoyances, and pain, we must find a way to get still and go behind the issues. To do this effectively, we must learn to become very, very still to quiet the inner chatter and chaos. The value of meditation and mindfulness practices is no longer argued against, not even in the medical world. Getting to where you can quiet yourself while in discomfort, be it emotionally or physically, takes an abundance of effort.

Our inner wisdom is waiting to be tapped. It lies at the core of our being, fed by a universal intelligence that will guide us to our healing, even our physical healing, if we invest time in listening. Our deep listening is how we mine the jewels waiting to be plucked from our inner landscape. All the wisdom that exists anywhere exists everywhere simultaneously; it is always available to all equally. The only difference between the one who taps into it and the one who does not is sheer determination.

Be determined to tap into the universal wisdom. It is waiting for you. Be determined to trust your inner knowing; that is why it is there. Be determined to quiet your mind and not let what you see be given greater value than what you know. Call this inner knowing whatever you want, but seek to express it because it is there for you.

Take off your glasses. Go within. Listen with focused intent. Then follow your inner guidance, wisdom, and intelligence.
