Choose Your Hard
All of life is perspective and there comes a time when we have choices to make about what road to take and what to focus on in your life. I’m sure you have heard people around you complain about how hard life is, maybe you’re the one complaining, sharing about how tough they have it. When it comes to perspective, the hard of the one complainer might seem like a vacation day compared to another.
If you didn’t make the cut-off for the bonus that you were striving for, you might consider that hard. Not having enough days for your dream vacation might feel hard. Losing a day of work because you were celebrating the Super Bowl – well that’s just about normal in this country, but your hangover could leave it feeling hard.
But hard for others can be quite different. Hard for some is needing to walk a mile to collect water, but to the neighboring tribe, at least this tribe has water to walk to retrieve. You might be struggling to get into that bikini body of your dreams for the summer months, but there are others who struggle to get out of their bed and into a wheelchair. Hard is a perspective.
When it comes to human potential it might feel really hard as you choose to focus on your mental health by either taking classes or working with a therapist. But this kind of hard, which it can be by the way, is not as hard as not choosing to get emotionally healthy and dealing with your own emotional meltdown. Choose your hard. Choose to do the hard work, the work that you have to risk feeling for. Choose the work that shows you your shadow, your shame, and all of your self-doubt. This choice might be hard, but it leaves you ready to deal with the unpredictable difficulty. Choose the hard that has a reward attached.
Cause and effect are all around us, in every corner of our lives, in every decision we make. You can either live at the mercy of cause, distracted by the effects, or you can learn to function from cause and be part of your conscious, chosen creation. Choose wisely. Choose your hard!
